DStv subscribers across Africa risk losing 12 popular Warner Bros. Discovery channels, including Discovery Channel, CNN International and Cartoon Network, when MultiChoice’s current distribution agreement with the US media giant expires at the end of December 2025.
MultiChoice, the owner of DStv, has notified customers that its carriage agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery will end on 31 December 2025 at 23:59 CAT, and that ongoing renewal talks have yet to produce a new deal. If negotiations fail, the affected channels will no longer be available on DStv from 1 January 2026, potentially impacting millions of pay-TV viewers in multiple African markets.
The channels at risk are Discovery Channel, CNN International, TLC, Discovery Family, Real Time, TNT Africa, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito and Travel Channel. MultiChoice has indicated that discussions with Warner Bros. Discovery are continuing, but has advised subscribers of the possibility of the blackout so they can prepare for changes to their viewing options.
