Nnamdi Kanu’s wife, Uchechi, has set social media storm abuzz after declaring that the detained IPOB leader is battling “forces far more darker” than those Nelson Mandela fought during apartheid, insisting her husband is Africa’s greatest living freedom fighter.
In a post on X, Uchechi dismissed terrorism allegations against Kanu and praised the massive support he commands across the world.
“The Igbo youths and students are in solidarity with Mazi #NnamdiKanu. #NnamdiKanu is not a terrorist.
“He is the greatest African Freedom fighter that exists and the leader of millions of Biafrans scattered all over the world who are under his umbrella IPOB.”
She said although Kanu is not perfect, his love for his people and their unquestionable loyalty remain unbroken.
“He loves his people and his people love him and many are willing to protect him with their last breath.”
Uchechi then drew a dramatic comparison with South Africa’s liberation icon, saying Mandela’s opponents were at least “amenable to reasoning,” unlike what Kanu is up against.
“And you know what, Nelson Mandela fought in the arena (apartheid) with those amenable to reasoning, despite its brutality. Mazi #NnamdiKanu, however, fights in the arena against forces far more darker,” she declared.
Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre after being convicted on terrorism-related charges linked to his push for Biafra’s independence.
