Wedding bells have been abruptly silenced for Maria Sol Messi, sister of football icon Lionel Messi, after she was rushed to hospital following a serious car crash in Miami.

The 32-year-old was reportedly involved in a traffic accident that left her with multiple injuries, forcing her to suspend her planned wedding to a member of Inter Miami’s coaching staff, earlier scheduled for January 3 in Rosario, Argentina.

Argentinian TV journalist and presenter Angel de Brito confirmed the incident, revealing that although Maria Sol is now stable, she faces a long road to recovery. According to reports, she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a wall.

Speaking on the American TV programme LAM, Angel said while reading messages on his mobile,
“Messi’s sister is okay, she’s out of danger but I was checking things with the family because she was due to get married in Rosario in Argentina on January 3 and she’s going to have to suspend it.”

He added that the injuries sustained were severe and will require extensive treatment.

“She suffered burns and burns are very difficult to treat as well as displacement of vertebrae. She’s already started her rehabilitation in Rosario,” he said.

Maria Sol has since returned to her hometown of Rosario, where she has begun rehabilitation for both spinal injuries and burns.

Angel also shared details he received from her mother, Celia Cuccittini, confirming the extent of the injuries.

“I asked her mum Celia Cuccittini because I’d received some information and she told me it’s true but that Maria Sol is okay. She has two fractured vertebrae, a fractured heel and wrist. The wedding is going to be put back. Celia told me she fainted and hit a wall.”

The Messi family confirmed that Maria Sol suffered multiple fractures, and that the wedding has officially been postponed. Reports indicate the crash occurred after she fainted while driving and collided with a wall.

While some Argentine media claimed she was driving a pick-up truck, Angel initially suggested, based on early family conversations, that the burns may have resulted from a motorbike fall, though this remains unconfirmed.

Maria Sol was set to marry Julian “Tuli” Arellano, a member of Inter Miami’s under-19 coaching staff.

A fashion designer and entrepreneur, Maria Sol has largely stayed out of the public eye. She previously lived in Spain before returning to Argentina to pursue her personal ventures.

She once worked as brand manager at The Messi Store, the clothing brand founded by her brother, alongside Virginia Hilfiger, sister of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger.
