Uncertainty and unanswered questions have followed the sudden death of a 27-year-old woman, Esther Akwaji, after she reportedly collapsed while eating at her boyfriend’s residence in Abuja, with the man now on the run.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has begun a full investigation into the incident, which occurred after Esther, a resident of Nasarawa State, travelled to the FCT to visit her family.

Sources disclosed that Esther left her family home on January 21, telling relatives she was heading to a bank in the Dei-Dei area, which she never returned.

Hours later, the family reportedly received a phone call from an unknown man using Esther’s phone.

The caller identified himself as her boyfriend and claimed that she had visited him instead.

According to the man, he had bought food for them, but while they were eating, Esther suddenly began vomiting.

He said he rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed she was dead.

However, shortly after the confirmation, the boyfriend allegedly fled the hospital and has since remained unreachable, raising serious suspicion and concern.

Confirming the incident, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death.

She disclosed that Esther’s body has been deposited for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.

Police say further details will be made public as the investigation progresses.
