Nigeria’s worsening electricity crisis has raised fresh concerns, but Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has broken his silence with confident assurances that the Federal Government is taking urgent steps to steady the collapsing system.

With gas supplies to power plants shrinking and generation plunging to just 3,940.53MW as of March 5, 2026, fears of a nationwide blackout have intensified. But Adelabu insists help is on the way.

“Concrete measures are being implemented to ensure more reliable and sustainable electricity for homes, businesses, and industries. The reforms initiated by President Tinubu are beginning to take root and Nigerians will soon witness the full benefits.”

Delivering his Eid message, the minister painted a hopeful picture, linking ongoing reforms to the broader agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“As we celebrate, we take pride in the strides being made under President Tinubu’s leadership, including his recent engagements in the United Kingdom, which promise significant gains in investment, bilateral relations and economic cooperation.

“These milestones underscore a new direction for our nation. I urge all Nigerians to continue supporting these efforts so that the gains can be consolidated for the benefit of all… through unwavering dedication to its progress and alignment with the policies and programmes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The challenges we face today are, without doubt, the building blocks of a more prosperous tomorrow.”

Behind the optimism, however, pressure is mounting.

Nigeria’s power sector is grappling with dwindling gas supply, its lifeline, raising the spectre of deeper outages across homes and industries.
