Golf legend Tiger Woods has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence following a rollover crash involving his Land Rover on Jupiter Island, Florida.
Authorities in Martin County said the crash occurred on Friday afternoon on a two-lane road near Woods’ home on Jupiter Island, when his Land Rover struck a pickup truck towing a pressure-cleaning trailer. Woods was attempting to overtake the truck at high speed, clipped the rear of the trailer and rolled onto the driver’s side before the vehicle slid to a stop.
Sheriff John Budensiek told reporters that Woods showed signs of impairment at the scene, prompting officers to conduct roadside sobriety checks. While Woods “blew triple zeroes” on a breathalyzer, indicating no alcohol in his system, he refused to submit to a urine test requested by investigators.
As a result, Woods was arrested and charged with DUI causing property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, both misdemeanour offences under Florida law. He was taken into custody and is required to remain in jail for at least eight hours before being eligible for release on bond, in line with state regulations governing DUI arrests.
Officials confirmed that neither Woods nor the driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries, and Woods was able to exit his vehicle through the passenger side. No passengers were reported in either vehicle at the time of the crash, and no drugs or medication were found inside Woods’ car, according to the sheriff.
The incident adds to Woods’ history of road-related troubles, coming years after his 2021 single-vehicle crash in California that left him with significant leg injuries, and a 2017 arrest in Florida on a separate DUI charge linked to prescription medications. Authorities said the latest case will proceed through the county’s criminal justice system, with Woods expected to face arraignment on the charges in the coming days.
