The Rivers State Police Command has announced the disbandment of all Tactical Teams operating within the state, in line with ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and accountability.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, the move was carried out in strict compliance with a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju.

According to the statement, all previously existing Tactical Teams have now been consolidated into a single unit, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which will serve as the central оператив arm for tackling violent crimes across the state.

The Command explained that the newly established unit has been mandated to respond swiftly and effectively to incidents of violent crime, while strictly adhering to established rules of engagement and upholding fundamental human rights.

The police also issued a strong warning to officers against acts of extortion, abuse of office, and other forms of misconduct, stressing that any violation of the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct and professional ethics will attract strict disciplinary measures.

The development is part of broader efforts by the police leadership to reform policing practices and strengthen public trust in law enforcement across the country.
