President Bola Tinubu has approved a series of strategic appointments and reappointments aimed at strengthening leadership across critical education agencies in the country.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO), while Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi will continue in his role as Registrar.
In the technical education sector, the President appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and reappointed the Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final five-year term.
Tinubu also approved the appointment of Dr Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State for a single term of five years. Binfa, a mechanical engineer with a PhD from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, succeeds Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure as the pioneer rector ended in March 2026. Prior to his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
Meanwhile, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has been reappointed as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. First appointed in September 2021, Anunobi has led reforms focused on modernising the institution, including the development of the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The Presidency said her reappointment is intended to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, facilitate the completion of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja, and support the implementation of the institution’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
Professor Adelabu, a retired Professor of Educational Administration and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, previously served as Chairman of the NBTE, while Professor Salako is a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, where he served from 2016 to 2024.
The appointments are part of ongoing efforts by the administration to reposition the education sector through experienced leadership and institutional stability.
