In compliance with the nationwide industrial action protesting the assault on NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero in Imo State, officials of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) shut down the National Assembly (NASS) Complex in Abuja’s Three Arms Zone on Tuesday, MUK TV reports.

This move disrupted human and vehicular movements around the premises, locking out lawmakers, NASS staff, journalists, and others.

The closure, marked by impassable entrances, led to heated arguments. Eventually, one gate was reluctantly opened for journalists, and a few others managed to gain access to the complex.

At the time of filing this report, both chambers remain closed, raising concerns that plenary sessions may be disrupted.

A representative from the Parliamentary Association of Nigeria, PASSAN, NASS Branch, informed our correspondent that the NLC’s directive on the ongoing strike was being enforced at NASS.

This action follows the directive of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, instructing members to commence a nationwide strike from midnight, Tuesday, November 14, in solidarity with NLC President Joe Ajaero.

Affiliated unions of both labor centers are implementing the resolutions of the joint National Executive Council of TUC and NLC.

Addressing reporters on Monday, TUC President Festus Osifo stated that the strike will persist until “governments at all levels wake up to their responsibility.”
