Funsho Doherty, the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Lagos state governorship in the 2023 elections, recently highlighted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s questionable spending on various extravagant projects.

In an open letter addressed to Mr. Sanwo-Olu and shared on X, Doherty scrutinized contract awards reported by the state’s Public Procurement Agency (PPA) during the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023.

He emphasized the importance of prudent use of public funds, especially in the current times.

Doherty specifically raised concerns about several projects, urging the governor to reevaluate them.

He notably flagged a staggering N2 billion approved for the provision of rechargeable fans, lights, and a fridge in the deputy governor’s office, calling for a deeper investigation into this allocation.

Moreover, he questioned the allocation of N18.5 million to the governor’s chief of staff for the distribution of 2,000 Noiler chickens across local government areas and wards in the state, deeming it unclear why this office would be involved in such endeavors.

The revelation also included the allocation of N531 million for the renovation of Saint Andrews Anglican Church in Oke-Popo area, which Doherty questioned, querying the use of taxpayers’ money for religious center renovations.

He highlighted a N440,750,000 allocation to the chief of staff’s office for procuring a brand new Lexus LX 600 Bulletproof Sport Utility Vehicle, emphasizing its excessive nature considering the prevailing economic circumstances.

Doherty further pointed out other expenditures, such as N7.5 million for replacing liquid fragrance in the Governor’s Office and N30,000,000 each for monthly outreach and empowerment programs by the deputy governor’s wife, urging a reevaluation of their necessity and value.

As of now, the Lagos State Government has not issued a formal response to Doherty’s claims.
