Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has been elected as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election, after securing 459,393 affirmation votes in the party’s primary election held today.
The APC primary, conducted through an affirmation process, saw party members across Kaduna State endorse the incumbent governor as the party’s flagbearer for the forthcoming 2027 governorship election. The exercise followed the conclusion of the party’s screening and consensus-building efforts, which had earlier cleared Sani and aligned key stakeholders behind his candidature.
Party officials said the affirmation result, which returned 459,393 votes in favour of Governor Sani, reflected broad-based support from APC members in the state and signalled confidence in his ongoing policies and programmes. The large turnout and margin of affirmation were also interpreted by party leaders as a boost to the APC’s chances of retaining power in Kaduna in 2027, with the governor expected to anchor the party’s campaign on continuity, security consolidation, and economic reforms.
Governor Sani, who has led Kaduna State since 2023, has positioned himself as a unifying figure within the party, setting up consensus and harmonisation committees ahead of the 2027 polls to manage internal ambitions and foster cohesion. With his emergence as the APC candidate now formalised, attention will shift to opposition parties as they prepare their own standard-bearers for what is expected to be a fiercely contested governorship race.
