Former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke has been cleared to contest the presidential primary election of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), positioning him for a potential return to national politics.

The PRP primary election is scheduled to hold on Sunday, May 25, 2026, where Duke will compete against two other aspirants for the party’s presidential ticket. The clearance follows the completion of the party’s screening process for aspirants seeking to represent the PRP in the next presidential election.

Duke, who served as Cross River State Governor from 1999 to 2007, has remained active in Nigerian politics and previously contested the 2019 presidential election under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) platform. His participation in the PRP primary signals his continued ambition to lead the country at the highest level.

The outcome of Sunday’s primary will determine who carries the PRP’s presidential flag in the upcoming general elections, as the party seeks to position itself as a viable alternative among Nigeria’s political parties.
