The Nigeria Police Force has withdrawn a murder charge against Enugu-based estate developer and businessman, Nebo Kingsley, after an internal investigation found no evidence linking him to the alleged crime.

Court documents filed by the Inspector-General of Police’s Directorate of Legal Services before the Enugu State High Court requested the discontinuance and striking out of the case, citing the need for further investigation.

The development follows findings by the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU), which reportedly established that Kingsley was wrongly implicated in the murder case arising from a protracted land dispute in Etiti-Ngwo Community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The CRU report also raised concerns over alleged misconduct by some police officers involved in the investigation, including claims of unlawful detention and rights violations. Investigators found no incriminating evidence against Kingsley and recommended further review of the case.

While the murder charge has now been withdrawn, the police say investigations into the underlying dispute and circumstances surrounding the case will continue.
