The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Chief Chikodiri Ojimba, has insisted that Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi should withdraw from the 2027 Senate race, citing a longstanding zoning and single-tenure arrangement in the district.

Speaking in an interview, Ojimba argued that Ebonyi North has an established political understanding that allows each senator to serve only one term before handing over to another stakeholder from the zone. According to him, the arrangement dates back to 1999 and was respected by several former senators, except for former Governor and Senator Sam Egwu, who secured a second term.

Ojimba claimed that the alleged breach of the agreement by previous political actors created the current controversy over the district’s Senate seat. He maintained that stakeholders across Ebonyi North, including Governor Francis Nwifuru, are aware of the arrangement.

The APGA candidate criticized the current representation of the district, alleging that many communities still lack adequate infrastructure, educational facilities, and healthcare development. He pledged to prioritize these sectors if elected in 2027.

Ojimba further challenged Senator Nwebonyi to respect what he described as the district’s political tradition by stepping aside after one term. He argued that leaders must uphold agreements made within their constituencies and urged the Senate Deputy Chief Whip to create a positive legacy by withdrawing from the race.

Declaring his own commitment to the alleged arrangement, Ojimba promised to serve only one term if elected, insisting that the Senate seat should rotate fairly among stakeholders in Ebonyi North Senatorial District.

The comments come amid growing political debate over the 2027 Senate contest in Ebonyi North, with both camps presenting opposing views on the district’s succession arrangement and representation.
