The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C, Owerri, has recorded a major breakthrough in its anti-smuggling operations with the interception of foreign-smuggled vegetable oil worth ₦403.5 million across parts of the Southeast.
According to a statement by Comptroller Bishir Balogun, the seizure was made following credible intelligence on May 9, 2026, along the Ninth Mile area in Enugu State and later on June 7 along the Onitsha, Agbor highway in Delta State.
The intercepted goods were being transported in two trucks and include 3,310 jerrycans of 25 litre “Super Delicious” vegetable oil, 10 jerrycans of 10 litre variants, and multiple cartons of sunflower vegetable oil in 5 litre and 3 litre sizes.
Balogun described the operation as a coordinated intelligence led effort aimed at dismantling smuggling networks that undermine local production, job creation, and Nigeria’s economy. He stressed that the Nigeria Customs Service, under the NCS Act 2022, remains committed to blocking illegal imports and protecting domestic industries.
He warned smugglers to desist from such activities, noting that all seized items remain under custody as investigations continue and legal actions are being processed.
