The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has announced that all its candidates for the September 26 local government elections have successfully passed the screening exercise conducted by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC).

Speaking in Enugu, the party’s state chairman, Johnpaul Anih, disclosed that the party fielded more than 14 chairmanship candidates and over 210 councillorship candidates across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Anih described the upcoming council elections as a crucial political milestone ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that the party has already commenced full-scale campaigns across the state.

He commended Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission for conducting a fair, transparent, and inclusive screening process, while urging the commission to maintain the same standard throughout the election period.

The NDC chairman also warned against any attempts to compromise the integrity of the polls, stressing that the credibility of the September 26 election will serve as a key measure of Enugu State’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the party’s candidates emerged through transparent primaries supervised by electoral and security authorities, positioning them to provide effective grassroots leadership if elected.
