The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against allowing its internal disagreements over the 2027 governorship ticket to escalate into actions capable of disrupting peace and stability in the state.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, the LP expressed concern over the ongoing public exchanges between supporters of APC governorship hopefuls, Eric Opah and former Minister Henry Ikoh, warning that the growing tension could affect the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed by residents.

The Labour Party alleged that dissatisfaction within the APC stems from the perceived sidelining of long-standing party loyalists in favour of individuals considered politically influential due to their financial strength. According to the party, such developments have fueled resentment, division, and internal conflicts within the opposition party.

While stressing that it has no interest in determining who emerges as the APC governorship candidate, the LP said its primary concern is the protection of public peace and the prevention of political actions capable of overheating the state’s political environment.

Reacting to the claims, the APC dismissed the Labour Party’s comments, accusing a faction of the LP of lacking the moral authority to lecture others on internal democracy.

The APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, maintained that the party remains united under the leadership of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, , and urged the Labour Party to focus on resolving its own internal challenges.

The exchange highlights the growing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Abia State, with major parties already positioning themselves for the contest.
