The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Ikeje Asogwa, winner of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election.

Announcing the results at the INEC office in Nsukka, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Christian Ezeibe, said Asogwa secured a total of 162,360 votes to emerge victorious.

According to the results, the APC candidate defeated his closest challenger, Dr. Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 9,299 votes.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant Senate seat following the death of the former occupant, Senator Okey Ezea.

Reacting to the outcome, the Director of Media and Strategy Communication for the Ikeje Asogwa Campaign Organisation, Samson Ezea, described the victory as a clear reflection of the widespread support enjoyed by the APC candidate across the six local government areas of Enugu North Senatorial District.

He expressed appreciation to voters for their confidence in Asogwa and pledged that the senator-elect would work diligently to provide effective representation and attract development projects to the district.

The victory marks a significant political milestone for the APC in Enugu State and reshapes the political landscape of the Enugu North Senatorial Zone.
