Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has again criticised former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, accusing him of pursuing the presidency at all costs and failing to take clear positions on key issues affecting the South-East.
Umahi made the remarks during an inspection of Section 2 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Epe, Lagos State, while reacting to social media reports alleging that Obi had promised to discontinue some of President Bola Tinubu’s legacy infrastructure projects if elected president.
The minister described the reported position as disappointing, arguing that major infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway are critical to Nigeria’s economic development and should not be politicised.
He challenged supporters of Obi and President Tinubu to compare the development records of both leaders during their respective tenures as governors of Anambra and Lagos states, particularly in terms of long-term projects and master plans.
Umahi also revisited issues surrounding insecurity in the South-East, alleging that Obi had not spoken strongly enough against the Monday sit-at-home order and other challenges affecting the region.
The former Ebonyi State governor further claimed that leaders must be accountable for their past actions and positions, especially on matters relating to regional security and political stability.
Reaffirming his support for President Tinubu, Umahi praised the administration’s infrastructure agenda and maintained that ongoing projects across the country would deliver lasting economic benefits to Nigerians.
The latest comments add to the growing political exchanges ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political actors continue to position themselves and their parties for the next presidential contest.
