The Abia State Police Command has intensified efforts to enhance public safety and crime prevention, impounding 15 vehicles and arresting 15 suspects for violations of vehicle registration and number plate regulations across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the enforcement operation was carried out in compliance with directives from the Inspector-General of Police and targeted unregistered vehicles, as well as vehicles with obscured, altered, defaced, or improperly covered number plates.

The Command disclosed that the operation led to the seizure of 15 vehicles found to be in breach of registration requirements, while 15 individuals were arrested in connection with the offences.

Police further revealed that nine of the cases have already been charged to court, while investigations are ongoing in the remaining cases, with assurances that all offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Command commended the professionalism of officers involved in the exercise, noting that the enforcement campaign is aimed at closing security gaps often exploited by criminal elements and strengthening the state’s crime-fighting efforts.

Residents were urged to comply with vehicle registration regulations and ensure that their number plates are properly displayed to avoid sanctions.
