Tension briefly erupted in Inyi Community, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, after a group of women reportedly mobilised to confront individuals accused of engaging in activities they described as harmful to the moral fabric of the community.

According to reports, the women stormed a residential area where several women were living and accused them of promoting prostitution, encouraging marital infidelity, and engaging in other activities considered unacceptable by community members.

During the operation, the women also alleged that a traditional spiritual practitioner was operating from the promises.

The situation attracted the attention of community leaders, including the President-General (PG) and other stakeholders, who intervened to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Reports indicate that after consultations, arrangements were made to transport the affected individuals out of the community.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions among residents and on social media, with some supporting the community’s efforts to uphold moral standards, while others questioned whether the action followed due process and respected the rights of those involved.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from security agencies regarding the development. On the question of whether the women were right:

The answer depends on both the facts and the law. Communities have the right to raise concerns about activities they believe affect public order, but accusations alone do not justify harassment, forced eviction, or punishment without due process. If criminal activities were suspected, the appropriate action would be to report the matter to law enforcement agencies for investigation. At the same time, community leaders often play a role in addressing social concerns through dialogue and lawful engagement. Ultimately, any action taken should respect both community interests and individual rights under the law.
