The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a truck loaded with military camouflage uniforms and cartons of suspected hard drugs, arresting four suspects in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough against a suspected criminal supply network.
The truck was intercepted along the Lekki-Epe corridor following intelligence reports that the consignment was being moved out of Lagos. Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, said operatives of the State Tactical Squad tracked and stopped the vehicle, recovering several sacks of military camouflage and suspected prohibited substances.
According to preliminary investigations, the consignment was allegedly destined for Nigeria’s South-East, raising concerns over the possible use of the uniforms by criminal groups involved in kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.
In a separate intelligence-led operation on Lagos Island, police arrested 36 foreign nationals from seven African countries, including Chad, Burkina Faso, Benin Republic, Mali, Togo, Cameroon and Guinea. Authorities said the suspects could not provide satisfactory explanations for their activities in Nigeria and are being profiled before possible handover to the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Meanwhile, police also recovered firearms during a raid in the Ijanikin area of Lagos. Acting on information from residents, operatives arrested several suspects and recovered two double-barrel guns and six locally fabricated firearms.
The Lagos State Police Command said investigations into the three operations are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying and apprehending other members, financiers and coordinators of the suspected criminal networks. Authorities have assured residents of their commitment to strengthening security across the state.
