A joint security operation involving Agunechemba operatives and the Nigeria Police Force has led to the neutralisation of three suspected members of a notorious armed gang in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday night following intelligence reports, targeted a group believed to be responsible for a series of violent crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery and attacks on innocent residents across Anambra South Senatorial District and surrounding areas.
According to Agunechemba’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Nweke Nweke, the gang had allegedly been disguising themselves in federal security uniforms and was linked to the earlier attack on the convoy of Governor Charles Soludo’s Chief of Staff.
Security operatives reportedly tracked the suspects to the Isuofia-Igboukwu axis, where they were said to be carrying out criminal activities. Upon sighting the operatives, the suspects attempted to flee and opened fire, leading to a gun battle.
Three suspected gang members were killed during the exchange, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. No casualty was recorded among the security personnel.
Items recovered from the operation included a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG), AK-47 rifles, other dangerous weapons, a white Hilux van allegedly used for criminal operations, charms, handbags and other incriminating materials.
Security officials have described the operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against violent crime in Anambra State, while efforts continue to track down and apprehend fleeing members of the gang.
