The Inspector-General of Police, , and the Attorney-General of the Federation, , have commended the inauguration of a state-of-the-art DNA Forensic and Criminal Investigation Centre in Enugu State, describing it as a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s justice and security sectors.

The Centre for DNA Forensic and Criminal Investigation (CEDFOCI), established through a partnership between and the , was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at the university’s main campus in Ugwuomu, Enugu.

Speaking at the event, the IGP said the facility would revolutionise crime detection, investigation and prosecution by providing law enforcement agencies with advanced forensic tools. He noted that modern policing now relies heavily on science, technology and evidence-based investigations rather than eyewitness accounts and confessions alone.

According to him, the centre will play a vital role in tackling crimes such as terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, cybercrime, homicide and sexual offences, while also helping to identify missing persons and exonerate innocent suspects.

Also speaking, the AGF described the facility as a landmark investment in science, innovation and justice, stressing that the use of DNA technology would strengthen criminal investigations, support prosecutors with credible evidence and enhance the delivery of justice across the country.

Both officials praised the efforts of , Godfrey Okoye University and other partners for bringing the project to reality, describing the centre as a strategic national asset that will serve not only Enugu State but the entire nation.

They expressed confidence that the facility would boost public trust in the justice system and position Nigeria among countries embracing modern scientific solutions to security and governance challenges.
