Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye, has called for improved tax compliance and greater public awareness of Nigeria’s tax system, describing taxation as a key driver of national development and effective governance.
Speaking in Enugu during the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) Award of Excellence ceremony, Nwoye said an efficient and transparent tax system is essential for funding infrastructure, social services and the delivery of democratic dividends. He urged the institute to intensify public enlightenment campaigns to encourage voluntary tax compliance.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties and Strategic Engagements, Dr. Chiedozie Nelson Nwafor, Nwoye also commended CITN for its role in strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal system and thanked the institute for honouring him with the Award of Excellence in Political Leadership and Public Service.
At the event, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the CITN Enugu and District Society, Igwe Prof. V.C. Onah, pledged to promote professionalism and members’ welfare, while unveiling plans to establish a dedicated CITN Estate for members in Enugu.
