A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging for the murder of his former employer, 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Mrs. Abiodun Ezekiel.
The court delivered the judgment on July 1, 2026, nearly two years after the couple was brutally killed at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja, on April 1, 2024.
Investigations by the police commenced immediately after the incident was discovered and eventually led to the arrest of Marcus in Obajana, Kogi State, where he had fled and gone into hiding after the crime.
During interrogation, the convict confessed to gaining access to the victims’ residence at about 11:00 p.m. on April 1, 2024, before killing the couple. Further findings revealed that Marcus had previously worked as the family’s driver but was dismissed following a series of disagreements with his employers.
He was subsequently arraigned before the FCT High Court, where prosecutors presented evidence linking him to the crime. After reviewing the evidence and hearing arguments from counsel, Justice M. S. Idris held that the prosecution had successfully established its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The court consequently found Jonathan Marcus guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging for the murder of Mr. Adebola Ezekiel and Mrs. Abiodun Ezekiel.
Reacting to the verdict, the FCT Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory and ensuring that criminal offenders are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
