The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has trained more than 2,000 unemployed youths in Imo State under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI), aimed at tackling unemployment through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.
Speaking during the Phase II resettlement ceremony in Owerri, the Acting Director-General of the NDE, Edmund Onwuliri, disclosed that 1,001 beneficiaries were trained in Phase I, while 1,035 others completed training in Phase II.
He said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by equipping participants with vocational and entrepreneurial skills to become self-reliant and create jobs for others.
Onwuliri noted that 28 Phase II beneficiaries have received business starter packs and vocational equipment, assuring that more successful trainees will be empowered in subsequent batches as funds become available.
Officials at the event urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the training and equipment to build sustainable businesses and contribute to economic growth.
The beneficiaries were trained in various vocational fields, including welding and fabrication, catering, GSM phone repairs, solar installation, electrical installation, plumbing, carpentry, hairdressing, knitting, autotronics, satellite dish installation, and POP/wall screeding.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Chimezie thanked the Federal Government and the NDE, pledging to use the equipment to establish successful businesses.
