The Enugu State Police Command has impounded 195 vehicles for registration and number plate violations as part of the nationwide enforcement of the ban on unregistered vehicles.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the operation was led by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, and targeted vehicles with missing, covered, defaced, obscured, improperly affixed or unauthorised number plates, as well as unregistered vehicles.

The police said owners of the affected vehicles would be prosecuted in line with the National Road Traffic Regulations and other applicable laws.

Commissioner Giwa warned motorists to comply with vehicle registration requirements, adding that the enforcement exercise would continue across the state. He also cautioned that any police officer found engaging in extortion or other misconduct during the operation would face strict disciplinary action.

The exercise follows a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ordering strict nationwide enforcement to address the security risks associated with unregistered vehicles and illegal number plates.
