The Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Disability Commission, Sunday Egbo, has called on Nigerians to treat persons with disabilities (PWDs) with dignity and ensure public institutions provide accessible facilities for their inclusion.
Speaking in Enugu, Egbo urged hospitals, banks, schools, courts, markets and transport operators to eliminate barriers by providing disability-friendly infrastructure such as ramps and other accessible facilities.
He disclosed that the commission has handled several cases of alleged discrimination involving persons with disabilities, including complaints relating to airport services and recruitment processes, stressing that accessibility remains a major challenge across many sectors.
Egbo also shared his personal journey of losing a leg following a medical injection, noting that he went on to become a legal practitioner and serve in the judiciary before his appointment as the pioneer Executive Secretary of the commission.
He appealed to residents to support the commission by reporting cases of discrimination and partnering with it to promote the rights, welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities across Enugu State.
