The Abia State Government has announced plans to commence the Pocket Layout Industrial Estate Project, an affordable housing initiative aimed at improving access to quality housing and expanding infrastructure across the state.
Briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Information Okey Kanu said the contractor selection process is nearing completion, with successful bidders expected to be announced within a week before construction begins.
He disclosed that the project will be executed at the Old Civil Service Commission site and the former Abia Hotels location.
Kanu also announced the revival of the Enyimba Automated Shoe Company and Enyimba Garments Factory in Aba, revealing that both factories have resumed full production with modern equipment and are now producing goods that can compete in international markets.
On infrastructure, he said Governor Alex Otti has approved the immediate repair of the flood-prone Ogbor Hill–Azumini Road to improve access during the rainy season.
The commissioner further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to education, stating that admission into Abia Smart Schools remains free, transparent and merit-based. He added that more Smart Schools are nearing completion and will be commissioned before the new academic session begins in September.
According to Kanu, the initiatives reflect the Otti administration’s drive to promote affordable housing, industrialisation, quality education, infrastructure development and economic growth across Abia State.
