The Nigerian Army has commenced the construction of a 120-bed medical centre in Ebonyi State as part of efforts to strengthen security operations, improve troop welfare and expand healthcare services in the South-East.
The foundation for the facility was laid at the Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, by the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, alongside the governors of Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Enugu states.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the hospital will serve as a major medical hub for troops while also providing quality healthcare services to surrounding communities.
The facility will offer emergency and surgical care, intensive care, diagnostic services, specialist clinics, and a psychiatric unit for managing post-traumatic stress and other operational health conditions.
The Army described the project as a strategic investment that will enhance military readiness, strengthen civil-military relations, support ongoing security operations and contribute to socio-economic development across the South-East.
