Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major highway projects, describing the decision as a significant boost to infrastructure development in the South-East.
In a post on his official X account, Governor Soludo said the approvals followed a meeting with President Tinubu on July 1, during which they discussed critical road infrastructure in the region.
According to the governor, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, subsequently requested details of the proposed projects, which were submitted on July 3.
The approved projects include the dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road linking Anambra and Kogi States, as well as the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, which will connect Anambra and Imo States to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway through Abia State.
Governor Soludo disclosed that he received confirmation from the Minister of Works on July 15 that President Tinubu had approved both projects for design and procurement.
Describing the development as historic, Soludo said the road projects would serve as critical economic corridors, enhancing connectivity and boosting trade across the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions.
The governor praised President Tinubu for what he described as his commitment to rebuilding the South-East through strategic infrastructure, expressing confidence that the projects would contribute significantly to the region’s economic growth and integration.
Soludo also thanked the President for the approvals, stating that history would remember his contributions to infrastructure development in the South-East.
The latest development further highlights the growing political relationship between President Tinubu and Governor Soludo, whose All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has declared support for the President’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
