Peter University, Anambra State, has received approval to commence 11 new academic programmes, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s drive to expand academic offerings and strengthen capacity in emerging fields.
The development has been welcomed by stakeholders, who described it as a major boost to higher education and technological advancement in Nigeria.
Particular attention has been drawn to the approval of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence programmes, which are expected to equip students with critical digital skills required to compete in the global technology ecosystem.
Observers noted that the introduction of the new programmes aligns with ongoing efforts to build indigenous technology capacity, develop innovation-driven talent and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on foreign technological solutions.
They stressed that expanding access to technology-focused education would help address the shortage of skilled professionals in the digital sector while creating opportunities for research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
