The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Nursery and Primary School, Awka, has recorded another major academic milestone as all 37 pupils presented for the 2026 UNIZIK High School entrance examination scored above the qualifying mark.
The achievement was announced during the school’s 2026 Graduation and Prize-Giving Ceremony, which also showcased significant infrastructural improvements aimed at enhancing teaching and learning.
The colourful event attracted members of the university management, parents, teachers, pupils and other distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate academic excellence, character development and the school’s continued growth.
In her address, the Headmistress, Mrs. Elizabeth Uju Ifeacho, described the ceremony as a celebration of excellence, resilience and collective achievement. She appreciated the University Management, Board of Governors, parents and staff for their unwavering support throughout the academic session.
Mrs. Ifeacho revealed that all 37 candidates who sat for the 2026 UNIZIK High School entrance examination surpassed the minimum qualifying score of 50, with the highest score standing at 93.
She also announced that one of the pupils, Chigolum Victory, secured a scholarship to OSNON Academy, Uga, while the school emerged overall winner of the Matholon Inter-School Mathematics Competition and placed third in the Federal Road Safety Corps Children’s Day Quiz Competition.
To encourage academic excellence, the school rewarded the overall best pupils from Nursery Three to Primary Six with cash prizes of ₦10,000 each.
Beyond academic achievements, the Headmistress reaffirmed the school’s commitment to producing well-rounded pupils through discipline, moral instruction and educational excursions designed to broaden their learning experience.
She highlighted several infrastructure projects completed with the support of the university management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie. These include the renovation of classroom blocks, installation of CCTV cameras and solar-powered lighting, provision of new furniture and teaching facilities, rehabilitation of the school’s access road and improvements to the learning environment.
Mrs. Ifeacho also disclosed that the school strengthened its workforce through the engagement of additional teachers and support staff while restoring one previously unpaid teacher to the payroll.
She paid tribute to the late teacher, Mr. Chinemerem Ugwumba Uzoma, describing him as a dedicated educator whose contributions to the school would remain unforgettable.
Addressing the graduating pupils, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, congratulated them on completing their primary education and encouraged them to remain focused and uphold the values of excellence as they progress to secondary school.
He also commended the Headmistress, teachers and parents for their dedication and announced plans to personally sponsor the renovation of the nursery section and its playground.
The ceremony featured the presentation of awards to outstanding pupils, the unveiling of the 2026 Graduation Yearbook, cultural performances, cake cutting and farewell presentations by the graduating class, marking another successful academic year for the institution.
