A Nigerian man, Ebikedoumene Bonny Jeff, has announced his separation from his wife, Yinlayefa, after years of unresolved grievances, emotional distance and marital conflicts.
Jeff made the announcement in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 8, 2026, the day the couple would have celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary.
According to him, their relationship began in 2008 when they were dating in their village. They later welcomed a daughter in 2011.
Jeff described his estranged wife as caring, humble and supportive, particularly during the difficult years when he struggled financially.
He said that after he left for university, Yinlayefa supported the family and later secured employment at the Federal University, Otuoke, where she allegedly shouldered household expenses while also supporting him as he searched for a job.
Jeff eventually secured employment in 2019, after which the couple got married on August 8, 2021.
“2019, I finally got a job & we got married (August 8 2021),” he wrote.
He disclosed that Yinlayefa became pregnant shortly after their wedding, but the pregnancy ended in the death of the child.
According to Jeff, the couple had experienced other painful events before their marriage. He said his wife became pregnant three times while he was still a student, but he asked her to terminate the pregnancies because of their financial situation at the time.
Jeff also admitted that another incident further damaged their relationship when he “mistakenly” followed another woman on social media.
“I mistakenly follow another woman to her notice and she vowed not to forgive me in life. I begged her to forgive me for years but she refused,” he wrote.
He said the unresolved grievances gradually took a toll on the marriage, with affection, communication and mutual support diminishing over time.
“Nothing was working, the silence battle,” he wrote.
Jeff also alleged that his wife made threats during the troubled period, including threats to harm herself and him, although he provided no independent evidence to substantiate the claims.
According to him, the prolonged conflict eventually became unbearable, prompting both parties to agree that separation was the best option for their future.
“Today supposed to be our 5th marriage anniversary but we choose separation for future life that nobody should die because of marriage and both parties are happy,” he wrote.
Explaining his position on the decision, Jeff added: “Marriage is not a do or die affair.”
Despite the collapse of their marriage, he acknowledged his wife’s sacrifices and contributions throughout their years together.
“I pray for you today, may God Almighty always protect and guide you, reward you plenty for all the sacrifices you have sacrificed in my life,” he wrote.
“You will always be my hero in my lifetime.”
Reflecting on the end of their relationship, Jeff wrote: “My woman of my youth is no more with me together but life goes on. Today I am just left with memories.”
He described the separation as a painful end to a relationship he had spent years trying to build, but maintained that both parties ultimately chose the decision they believed was best for their future.
