The National Council for Finance and Economic Development (NCFED) is set to hold its four-day conference in Owerri, Imo State, in what will be the first edition of the meeting to take place in the South-East geopolitical zone.
The conference, scheduled to commence on Monday, August 16, at the Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre, will bring together finance experts and key economic stakeholders from across the country.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy is expected to chair the conference, while Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, is scheduled to declare the event open.
Imo State Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy, Mr. Chuks Chukwumeka, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the programmes lined up for the conference.
He said the meeting would attract Commissioners for Finance and State Accountants-General from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, participants will deliberate on strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s economy, improve revenue generation and promote sustainable economic development across the states.
The conference is themed: “Strengthening Fiscal Federalism for Sustainable Revenue Generation, Equitable Allocation and Economic Resilience in a Volatile Global Economy.”
The commissioner said the choice of Owerri as host city would also provide a significant boost to the state’s hospitality and service sectors, owing to the expected influx of delegates and visitors.
He disclosed that the state was expecting at least 300 visitors who would require hotel accommodation and other services during the four-day event.
Chukwumeka expressed optimism that the conference would not only provide a platform for critical economic discussions but also generate increased business activities and revenue for Imo State.
