The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the Onitsha Head Bridge incident, particularly the circumstances surrounding the discharge of a firearm.
The Commissioner gave the directive on Wednesday while addressing members of the public in Onitsha, assuring residents that the Police Command would establish the facts of the incident and take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation.
CP Oji Ama also visited the victims receiving treatment at a hospital, where he expressed concern over their condition and assured them of the Command’s support.
He further pledged to personally ensure that the victims’ medical expenses are covered, while directing investigators to professionally examine all circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the investigation would be conducted without bias, with all relevant facts established before any further action is taken.
Meanwhile, Ikenga disclosed that the tense traffic situation around the Head Bridge had been brought under control, with normal vehicular and pedestrian movement restored in the area.

The Command appealed to residents to remain calm and peaceful while the investigation continues.
The Police also urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of escalating tension, assuring residents that security personnel would continue to monitor the situation and take necessary measures to protect lives and property.
