The Abia State Police Command has intensified collaboration with key security and humanitarian agencies as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence sharing, emergency response and community safety across the state.
The initiative is being driven by the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, during a series of working visits to the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state.
At the engagements, Afolabi stressed that the growing complexity of security challenges requires security and humanitarian agencies to work together rather than operate in isolation.
At the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the Police Commissioner highlighted the need for closer cooperation in protecting lives and responding to emergencies.
The Red Cross, represented by its Branch Secretary, Nzubechi Akubuako, expressed readiness to strengthen its partnership with the Police and offered to organise first aid and emergency response training for police personnel.
Afolabi welcomed the proposal and advised the organisation to formally communicate its request for improved security coverage around its office to the Police Command.
At the Nigeria Immigration Service, Afolabi called for stronger coordination and timely exchange of intelligence, describing inter-agency rivalry as counterproductive to effective security operations.
He also invited immigration personnel to participate in the Police Command’s forthcoming capacity-building programme.
The Controller of Immigration in Abia, Mrs Justina Nkechi Owa, pledged the Service’s cooperation, including participation in the training and continued intelligence sharing.
She identified human trafficking and proper documentation of foreigners as areas requiring increased inter-agency collaboration.
The Commissioner also visited the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, where he reiterated the need for a coordinated, intelligence-led approach to security.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Odimba Nicholson Chukwuemeka, assured the Police Command of the Corps’ full cooperation and expressed support for greater use of information and communication technology in crime prevention and emergency response.
He also pledged the participation of NSCDC personnel in the Police training programme.
The Abia Police Command says the engagements are aimed at building a more coordinated security network capable of improving information flow, emergency response and the protection of lives and property across the state.
