The Enugu State Government has commenced enforcement against unlicensed native doctors, Ezenwanyis and traditional medicine practitioners operating across parts of the state.
The enforcement exercise is being carried out by a government task force in Igbo Eze North, Nsukka, Igbo Eze South, Uzo Uwani, Igbo Etiti and Udenu Local Government Areas.
As part of the exercise, the government has directed all traditional medicine practitioners operating in the affected areas to register with the appropriate authorities and obtain the necessary licences to continue their activities legally.
Practitioners found operating without the required licences risk arrest, prosecution and other penalties under the relevant regulations.
The government has advised unlicensed practitioners to complete their registration before enforcement officers reach their shrines, temples or other places of practice.
It warned that failure to comply with the directive could lead to court action, heavy fines and other legal consequences.
The state government urged all affected native doctors, Ezenwanyis and traditional medicine practitioners to take the directive seriously and ensure that their operations are properly registered and licensed.
The enforcement, according to the government, is aimed at ensuring that traditional medicine practice in the state is carried out within the framework of applicable regulations.
