Senator Jimoh Ibrahim representing Ondo South Senatorial District, has set his sights on the Ondo gubernatorial race, confident in his chances following the passing of former governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Asserting his readiness to contest,  Ibrahim said he anticipates a level playing field in the APC primaries, dismissing fears of imposition from national leadership.

In an address in Akure, Ibrahim pledges commitment to free and fair primaries, buoyed by President Tinubu’s support for merit-based selection.

“The President will never say that we should go and work for the incumbent governor,” Ibrahim affirmed, highlighting the importance of open competition.

Ibrahim noted that he sees Akeredolu’s demise as an opportunity, stating, “Maybe the death of Aketi has enhanced my chances because Aketi is a human being, he can be subjectively objective at the last minute. But now that he is no more, that possibility is written off completely. So whoever is there, wants to run for governor will meet me at the field.

“So Aketi’s death doesn’t affect my chances at all, but it would rather enhance my chances to win the governorship position of this state. So we are working seriously to win this election,” he is  quoted to have said by The Punch.

Focusing on economic and security reforms, Ibrahim aims to bolster Amotekun with modern technology to tackle crime effectively.

As the primary approaches, a diverse field of aspirants, including incumbent Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and former officials, vie for the APC ticket.

Akeredolu’s passing in December 2023 marked a turning point, with Acting Governor Aiyedatiwa assuming office following President Tinubu’s intervention in the succession crisis.
