A police inspector from PMF 51, Oghara, Delta State, in alarming incident, has reportedly misplaced his AK-47 rifle with sixty (60) rounds of ammunition while watching the Super Eagles match against Cote d’Ivoire in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final at the Olu of Warri’s palace.
The officer, identified as Yusuf Samaila, attached to the palace, allegedly left his rifle (with breach number: 0927) and ammunition locked in his room during the match, as reported by Sahara Repprters.
Upon returning during halftime, he discovered the rifle missing, prompting a report to the Warri Area Command.
A source in the palace, aware of the matter, stated that the inspector found his room burgled and the rifle gone upon his return during halftime.
His unit commander reported the missing firearm to the Warri Area Command, indicating that the inspector had locked his rifle in his room before attending the AFCON final.
Efforts to recover the stolen weapon and ammunition and apprehend the perpetrator are underway.
When contacted, DSP Bright Edafe Bright, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, simply stated, “False, the rifle was immediately recovered.”
