President Bola Tinubu delivered a scathing critique of labour unions in Nigeria, urging them to prioritize peace amidst economic turmoil, as he lashed out at their recent protests.
Addressing attendees at the inauguration of Lagos’ Red Line Rail service, Tinubu didn’t mince words as he directed his message squarely at the Organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
“The Labour Union should understand that no matter how long we cling to our freedom and rights, the first strike within nine months of an administration is unacceptable.
“If you want to participate in the electoral process, wait until 2027. If not maintain peace. You are not the only voice of Nigerians,” Tinubu asserted.
While praising the Lagos Red Line Rail as a testament to effective governance, Tinubu emphasized the importance of visionary leadership in delivering tangible progress for citizens.
“I am pleased to declare to you that the momentum of greatness that we kick-started a quarter of a century ago has since become an unstoppable goal,” the president declared, highlighting the completion of the 37-kilometer intra-state rail service as a significant step forward in enhancing transportation infrastructure.
Emphasizing the need for optimism and determination, he reassured Nigerians of better days ahead, stressing the importance of collective effort in achieving national growth and development.
As he vowed to confront corruption head-on, Tinubu remained undeterred by potential resistance, affirming his commitment to securing a brighter future for all Nigerians.
“Smugglers and corruption will face fierce opposition. We will vanquish corruption and redirect resources towards education, healthcare, and efficient transportation systems,” Tinubu declared, underlining his administration’s unwavering resolve to tackle Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.
