On a tragic Saturday evening, the beloved Nollywood actor Mr Ibu breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in Lagos State, marking the end of a remarkable career at the age of 62, MUK TV reports.
Confirmation of his passing came from Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), who shared the heartbreaking news on social media.
“Today is a sad day for the Actors Guild of Nigeria. We mourn the loss of Mr Ibu, who suffered a fatal cardiac arrest,” Rollas announced.
Mr Ibu’s journey to his final moments was marked by a courageous battle against severe health challenges. For months, he grappled with blood clotting in his leg and other mysterious ailments, ultimately leading to the amputation of his affected leg.
In his time of need, Mr Ibu reached out to his fans for prayers and financial support, receiving assistance from various quarters, including the ABS Foundation.
Despite the outpouring of support, Mr Ibu’s condition continued to deteriorate, culminating in the amputation of his leg after undergoing seven surgeries.
His family’s hopes for overseas treatment were dashed when doctors deemed him unfit to fly, rendering the proposed therapy unfeasible due to airline restrictions.
Despite the setbacks, Mr Ibu’s resilience shone through as he returned home after a prolonged hospital stay, where he was visited by fellow actor Ken Erics, providing a glimmer of joy amidst his health struggles.
With over 200 Nollywood credits to his name, including iconic roles in films like “Mr Ibu,” “Mr Ibu and His Son,” and “Mr Ibu in London,” Mr Ibu’s legacy as a comedic genius and beloved actor will endure in the hearts of fans worldwide.
