Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has inspected the ongoing construction of the Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC) in Oba, a major pharmaceutical hub designed to modernise drug distribution and strengthen the regulation of pharmaceutical trade in Nigeria.

The 50-hectare facility, currently under construction by the Anambra State Government, is expected to replace the existing Headbridge (Ogbogwu) Drug Market in Onitsha and serve as a central hub for wholesale pharmaceutical activities.

According to the state government, the project is expected to become one of the largest regulated, technology-driven pharmaceutical wholesale centres in West Africa, with ambitions of ranking among the biggest pharmaceutical distribution hubs on the African continent upon completion.

The Coordinated Wholesale Centre is being developed in line with the National Drug Distribution Guidelines and is intended to centralise wholesale drug trading, improve regulatory oversight and curb the circulation of adulterated, counterfeit and substandard medicines.

Government officials say the project will provide a modern and organised environment for pharmaceutical businesses while enhancing drug traceability, quality assurance and public safety.

The facility is also expected to decongest the current Headbridge Drug Market in Onitsha and create a more efficient supply chain for pharmaceutical products.

Governor Soludo reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that supports economic growth, public health and investment, noting that the pharmaceutical hub will position Anambra as a leading destination for regulated pharmaceutical commerce in Nigeria.
