Inspector Nelson Abuante tragically committed suicide after mistakenly shooting and fatally injuring colleague Inspector Monday Gbaramana during an attempted arrest in Nyogor-Lueku, Khana Local Government Area.
The altercation arose when they sought to apprehend Mr. Akere Akpobari over allegations made by his mother.
According to reports gathered by Punch Metro, the scuffle ensued as Akere resisted arrest, leading to Abuante accidentally shooting Gbaramana.
“In the course of the altercation, Inspector Nelson Abuante mistakenly shot Gbaramana and he sustained serious injuries. So, Abuante and Akere’s mother tried to rush the injured officer to the hospital,” a source said.
In a bid to transport the injured officer to the hospital, their vehicle ran out of fuel, and sadly, Inspector Monday succumbed to his injuries en route.
Upon realizing his colleague’s demise, Abuante took his own life.
Both officers’ bodies have been taken to the mortuary for further investigation, confirmed by Police Public Relations Officer Grace Iringe-Koko, who stated that inquiries are underway to understand the full sequence of events.”
