In a devastating auto accident that happened around 9 am in the WOCDIF area along Osun West bypass road, Osogbo, seven lives, including three school children, were tragically cut short.
The collision involved a commercial bus, a motorcycle, and a tricycle transporting the school pupils. Eyewitness Akande Babawale reported that the bus, registered with RBC15 ZN, suddenly veered off its lane, colliding with the tricycle and motorcycle near the WOCDIF event center, resulting in the immediate death of four victims.
Agnes Ogungbemi, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Osun, confirmed that the accident resulted from a combination of a tyre burst and overspeeding by the commercial bus. Seven individuals lost their lives, comprising four adults, two male children, and one female child.
“Four persons died on the spot, four injured persons were taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, three of the injured victims were later confirmed dead and one female child is undergoing treatment,” she is quoted to have said by Vanguard.
Four injured persons were rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where three of them succumbed to their injuries, while a female child is currently undergoing treatment.
Both vehicles involved in the tragic incident were taken to the Dugbe Police Divisional headquarters in Osogbo. Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, expressed profound shock over the tragedy, extending heartfelt sympathy to the affected families.
A statement from his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, conveyed the government’s commitment to working with relevant authorities to enhance road safety.
Governor Adeleke, deeply saddened by the loss of lives, urged road users to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines.
“I am distraught to hear about the terrible accident that resulted in the death of five people in Osogbo due to a fatal accident while five other people sustained injuries of varying degrees. It is really painful for me, and I want to use this avenue to commiserate with the families of the deceased”
“It is my prayer that God Almighty repose their soulsq and give their loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses occasioned by their death. As a government, we will give the needed support to the injured and pray for their quick recoveries”, the Governor stated.
