Former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, has advised Atiku Abubakar to drop the idea of contesting the 2027 Presidential election, citing concerns about age suitability and suggested he should play a mentorship role for younger leaders.
Speaking at his Lugard office in Lagos, George also calls on President Tinubu to convene a meeting of retired military officers to address the current security challenges, emphasizing the need for urgent action.
George insisted on the PDP zoning the 2027 Presidency to the South, urging an end to the Mega Party discussions within the PDP, emphasizing the party’s entrenched and national standing.
“No other party is as entrenched and national in all concepts than the PDP. In 2027 I can’t tell anybody not to contest but our party must be definitive that the Presidency must remain in the South since the North has finished its eight years.”
In addressing the country’s security situation, George begged Tinubu to take decisive action, expressing pity for the President amid the “deluge of crises” and stressing the urgency of implementing state police.
He advocated for a national discussion on security, referencing the 2014 National Confab report, condemning recent atrocities like the murder of traditional rulers in Ekiti State and the kidnapping of school pupils.
He said, “We are failing on security and I want to call on the President to invite all elders to come for a discussion. The issue of insecurity has become a national calamity.”
George stressed the need for honesty and commitment from those in power to resolve the nation’s security crisis, emphasizing its impact on everyone regardless of political affiliation.
“The whole nation is in a state of quagmire. This is not an issue of APC or PDP, everybody is affected,” he added.
