The Hisbah command in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State has arrested seven men accused of allegedly exchanging their wives among themselves in what officials described as a bizarre and disturbing practice.

The suspects were said to be members of a group identified as “Wuddadu,” with authorities alleging that the act had secretly been ongoing in Azare town for nearly two years before it was eventually uncovered.

Speaking on the development, the head of the Hisbah board in the area, Malam Ridwani Muhammad Khairan, described the alleged practice as alien to Islamic teachings and morality.

According to him, the strange arrangement reportedly began after one of the suspects, identified as Muhammad Awwal, claimed he received spiritual inspiration through a dream.

“One of them, Muhammad Awwal, confirmed to us that he got this knowledge from a dream, saying that he had a dream of a prophet and that is why they persuaded their wives to do this act,” he said.

Khairan disclosed that the matter only came to light after one of the women allegedly involved reportedly became uncomfortable with the arrangement and decided to withdraw from the group.

“One of the women said she couldn’t handle this paganism, so she left them, which is when the mystery began to unravel,” he added.

The Hisbah official explained that concerns raised by members of the group eventually led to an internal inquiry and the invitation of the suspects for questioning.

“There was a group called Quddadu who came to me and said that there were some people among them who had made a claim that was not satisfied….we invited the people and sat with them and they confirmed their allegations to me.”

Authorities say investigations into the matter are ongoing as the suspects remain in custody over the controversial allegations.
