The member representing Nnewi North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Onyekachukwu Augustine Ike, has declared that the people of Nnewi will not tolerate any form of disrespect or challenge to the authority of the traditional ruler of Nnewi Kingdom, Igwe Kenneth Onyeneke Orizu III.
Speaking on the controversy surrounding the next chairmanship position of Nnewi North Local Government Area, the lawmaker criticised attempts by some groups to oppose the monarch’s position on which community should produce the next council chairman.
Ike described as unacceptable a counter-letter reportedly sent to Governor Chukwuma Soludo by the Nnewi town union after the monarch had already communicated his stance on the matter, insisting that the majority of Nnewi people stand with the traditional ruler.
He further maintained that, in line with an existing rotational arrangement among Nnewi’s four communities, Nnewichi should produce the next local government chairman after the tenure of the incumbent chairman, Hon. Echezona Anazodo.
The lawmaker also accused some local institutions of supporting efforts to alter the long-standing rotational agreement, warning that any move perceived as undermining the authority of the monarch or the established zoning arrangement could create disunity within the community.
