The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a suspect, identified as Nwali Nwibo, for allegedly spreading false information claiming that bandits and suspected herdsmen had invaded Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, investigations conducted by the command revealed that the report was false, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, warned residents against sharing unverified information capable of causing panic, fear, and public unrest. She urged members of the public to verify information before posting or forwarding it on social media.
The police boss reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling misinformation and prosecuting individuals found guilty of spreading fake news, while encouraging residents to rely on credible and official sources for security-related information.
